Combating AIDS (South Africa)
The HIV infection rate in South Africa is still over 20%. For many years, Continental Tyre South Africa (CTSA) has demonstrated great commitment to AIDS projects in the country. Its activities include educational measures as well as practical assistance.
For example, employees are thoroughly educated about AIDS through training sessions. Furthermore, informative brochures are readily available at the Port Elizabeth plant. CTSA also offers its workforce daily dietary supplements, which strengthen the body's defenses for infected employees and help those who are not affected to stay healthy.
Continental is also one of the founding sponsors of the "Back to School AIDS Orphans" project. Launched in 2002, the initiative provides school uniforms and school supplies for kids whose parents have died of AIDS.
